Where Are My Website Conversions?

Website Lead ConversionSometimes the theory of conversions is this huge mystery. The traffic is there. Plenty of people are visiting, and you have the stats to prove it. But where are those conversions? Turning visitors into conversions means asking yourself a few hard questions.

Just where and what is my “Call To Action”?

Engaging content only gets you so far. Or maybe it’s better to say, great content can get you great traffic. Way too many webmasters thing that’s the goal, and forget about conversions entirely. The bottom line is, people need to feel motivated and inspired. Not just to visit your site, but to become actual customers. This is why you need a call to action.

A call to action can be as simple as asking readers to follow you on Twitter, or “like” your post via Facebook. Even this seemingly small step keeps them connected and invested in your site. Asking them to subscribe to your weekly newsletter, register for a webinar, or purchase your e-book are other examples. Without a call to action, your site (as great as its content may be) will be rapidly forgotten among the competition from other sites with interesting content.

Now what is that thing again – Ah “Above the Fold”

Okay, website don’t have folds. If they did, though, you’d fold them in half the short way; all your good stuff needs to be above that halfway mark; before anyone has to scroll, click “next” or put forth any effort. This is the most valuable real estate on your landing page, so use it wisely. Put your most enticing ad, links to your most highly-rated article, or even your call to action right there, front and center, where it will hit your audience like a brick to the head. In a good way.

What long term value can I offer my visitors?

Other than a few delightful minutes spent reading your blog posts or articles, what else are you offering your visitors? Whatever it is has to be intriguing enough to your audience that they take the big plunge from visitor to customer. Newsletters, e-books, and consistent tips and continued quality are all examples of long-term offers which are likely to make conversions for you.
